Leukemia

  • Mar. 15th, 2009 at 2:04 PM

My mother passed away on 6th March, after the long struggle with leukemia...
4 years ago, she was told about the leukemia that she had.

The doctor told her that she would live less than a month when he told her about the leukemia.
Since then, miracles had happened around her.
She lived 4 years!

I have been devastated by grief.
I just can't believe that my mom passed away.
Oh, heck....time goes by sooooo slowly.

She had been a great fan of Metallica.
She asked me to play the song called "The Unforgiven"  throughout the funeral service.
According to her wishes, the funeral service was limited to family members, so we could do that.

My mom, my grandma and my friend all died of leukemia.
I myself had it at the age of 2.

Mom,

R.I.P.

Smoked Out

  • Nov. 21st, 2008 at 12:43 AM

Beer and cigarettes once went together like bread and butter, but now smoking in bars is banned in many cities. When you see smokers standing outside bars in the cold and rain, what is your first reaction? Walk on by, join them, or scorn them?

View 500 Answers

First and foremost, I have never been a smoker.
I don't smoke and I won't smoke forever.

The answer to this question is.....  I feel sorry for them.
I think banning smoking is kind of discrimination.
Here in Japan, more smokers recently have been forced to smoke outside or in a room for "smokers"  and I find it ridiculous.
At least, in Japan, they have the right to smoke.
I am wondering why non-smokers are always regarded as the good ones who have heavier rights than smokers have.
I believe anyone should not be discriminated for culture, religion, political reasons and so on....
I think smokers also have the same rights as non-smokers have.

Idiomatic Confusion

Whether it's a canary in the coal mine or a waitress in the weeds, idiomatic expressions can sometimes stump us even in our own language. What common expression puzzles you the most?

"Falling head over heals", "Like beating a dead horse" e.t.c...
There are lots of idiomatic expressions that puzzle me....

Reading Aloud

  • Nov. 7th, 2008 at 12:22 AM

One of the highlights of going to a literary festival is hearing authors read from their own works. What author, living or dead, would you most like to hear read?

View 500 Answers

Definitely Stephen King XD
I want to hear him reading some of his novles...such as The Green Mile, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,Apt Pupil,Pet Sematary, e.t.c...

I have ever watched him speaking in a TV show.
He spoke slowly and clearly so that I could understand what he was talking about :P
I thought his voice was not so bad.

Hamish Macbeth

What is Halloween, anyway?

Oops.
Everybody seems to have celebrated Halloween, then I say to myself, ashamed, "What is Halloween, anyway?"

The fog called Tambagiri

  • Oct. 31st, 2008 at 11:57 PM

Do you know the fog called Tambagiri?
This fog is kind of  a special fog because it creates fantastic scenery.

On my way home from the workplace, I could hardly drive because the fog was so thick that I couldn't see anything.
I was wrapped in a dense fog.

The area where I live - it used to be called Tamba - is famous for Tambagiri.

The lights look like something vacant and eerie.
You cannot see anything even just in front of you as the fog is coming.

It's time for reading

  • Oct. 17th, 2008 at 12:58 AM

Reading is very important for me.
Reading often compensates for lack of knowledge.
Reading enriches my life.
Reading, however, takes time, which  keeps me away from reading.

I found an interesting social networking service related to reading.
It is called Shelfari.
I created an account for it.

Live Music

  • Oct. 10th, 2008 at 11:31 PM

When it comes to bebop, you want to take it straight, no chaser. And a smoky jazz club is the best place to get it. What’s your favorite kind of place to see live music?

I often go to gigs by rock bands in Kyoto.
Kyoto has many small venues.
My favorite place to see live music is right in front of the band that is giving a performance ^^

The Beatles

  • Oct. 10th, 2008 at 12:02 AM

In their heyday, The Beatles were the center of the pop universe. Many groups have been hailed as the next Beatles, but does pop music even have a center anymore? Who represents the core of pop music to you?

View 500 Answers

Honestly speaking, I have never been into The Beatles.
In English class at junior high schools in Japan, some teachers often use their songs as kind of "supplementary materials" to teach English.
Oh, yes, they would coerce us into singing The Beatles's songs.
Everytime I hear their songs, I am forcibly reminded of my junior high school days.
It doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy my junior high school days :P

Who represents the core of pop music??
Hhmm...  I don't think there is  any band that represents the core of pop music.
If any, who or which band would it be the core of pop music....

Personal Holidays

I would creat a "Heavy Metal Holiday".
Everybody would be encouraged to listen to Heavy metal songs during this holiday!

Eat Your Vegetables

The fall harvest is showing up in markets now, including many of the green vegetables children find so disgusting and yet are forced to eat. What is the most disgusting thing you’ve eaten, either by choice or against your will?

Lederhosen

  • Oct. 4th, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Oktoberfest ends tomorrow in Munich, Germany, leading many to put away their lederhosen for the rest of the year. Do you have any special clothing you only wear once a year? What occasion do you save it for?

Ah! Oktoberfest!

One of my dreams is to visit Germany and attend this festival.
Beer, Beer, Beer!

Do I have any special clothing I only wear once a year???
No...
I really want to have one but I don't have any now.
Most Japanese women have the "Kimono (Japanese  Dress)" for special days.
I think the Kimono that is a beautiful traditional garment  is kind of a source of pride for Japanese.
I want the Kimono... I need to have it because I am Japanese... but  it is too expensive for me to buy it.

The Day of German Unity

Yes, I do feel kind of nostalgic for it.
I was just a kid at that time.
I have lived in Japan since I was born, which has made me far way from those kind of topics, but as for the Day of German  Unity, I clearly remember it.
One of our teachers at uni told us that the unemployment situation has been deteriorating since the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990.
Is it true?
i don't know...I need to check it out!

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

  • Oct. 1st, 2008 at 11:54 PM

I have just finished watching The Exorcism of Emily Rose and I found it quite intriguining.
The acting was great, and the plot was good.
The legal conflict, the scenes and the theme....everything that this movie has was quite excellent.
However as for whether it is a horror movie or not, I would have to say it isn't.
It is  a movie dealt with the legal conflict rather than one dealt with horror.
